Ipswich Town defender Cameron Burgess on away support at MK Dons, Harry Clarke and promotion ambitions

Cameron Burgess says he and his Ipswich Town team-mates are grateful for the support they have received from fans in recent weeks.

Nearly 7,000 supporters made their way to Stadium MK on Saturday to see the Blues make it back-to-back wins for the first time since October.

It was the latest away fixture to sell out, something which has become the norm this season for Town.

While manager Kieran McKenna labelled the support as 'startling' before the game, Burgess has shared similar sentiments.

"It's probably being so grateful that they turn up in their numbers all the time," the centre-back said when asked for his reaction to the support.

"And secondly, the amount of fans that turn up, especially at this level, is pretty much unheard of. There's definitely a lot of gratitude there and it doesn't go unseen. We all know it and we all feel it."

The 27-year-old has returned to the starting line-up after a spell on the bench between the end of January and start of this month, having started the previous nine.

Burgess has formed a partnership with January signing Harry Clarke since his return to the line-up against Sheffield Wednesday.

The pair have featured in two of the last three games together, keep two clean sheets in the process.

"He's obviously been a brilliant addition to the team and adds competition to places," Burgess said of the former Arsenal defender.

"It's good and it brings that good competition we're looking for. He's getting up to speed with how we do things round here now, and it's been a good partnership between us at the back."

Despite that, Burgess himself knows that his place in the side is not guaranteed.

Saturday's game against MK Dons was just the second time this season that Kieran McKenna opted for an unchanged line-up, with the Town boss preferring to use the quality at his disposal.

"I've said it a few times before, but it's not a usual case where you are necessarily going to be playing every game of the whole season," added the centre-back.

"We've got a big squad which is competitive, so there is going to be time for rotation and things like that.

"I guess the way we train week in, week out lends itself to that, but it becomes seamless when you do get a chance to play, so it's up to you to keep your place the best you can."

And while Ipswich might be five points off the automatic promotion places, Burgess feels there is still a lot to play for.

He added: "There's a big belief in the dressing room to know we can be the top side in the division when we are on our game and we can get things right. It's pleasing to say that we have done that more often than not.

"Nothing is ever decided this time of the year, and there is a lot of games to play. It's on us to focus on ourselves and see what happens, but we are by no means out of it.

"We just take it one game at a time. We have to get the points first ourselves, and then you can have a look at other results."
