Ipswich Town complete Ben Johnson signing from West Ham United
Ipswich Town have confirmed the signing of Ben Johnson on a four-year deal.
The defender arrives at Portman Road on a free transfer – after his contract at West Ham United expired – and becomes the Blues’ second senior incoming of the summer, following the signing of last season’s loan star Omari Hutchinson from Chelsea last night.
The 24-year-old has spent the last 17 years at the Irons and made 109 senior appearances for the East London outfit following his debut in 2019.
Johnson was part of the West Ham squad that won the UEFA Europa Conference League in 2023 and has also represented England 10 times at Under-21 level.
“Ben is a player who fits the profile we like to bring to the club,” Town boss Kieran McKenna told the club’s website.
“He is a young and talented defender with good technical quality, as well as excellent physical attributes.
“Ben also has a good amount of Premier League experience for his age and he is hungry to take the next step in his career. We feel this is a good move for him and he is an excellent addition for the club.
“Everyone who has worked with him speaks highly of his character, so we’re sure he will fit into the dressing room and our environment and culture.”
