Ipswich Town's League One rivals Wigan Athletic offer chance to former Arsenal, West Ham United and England midfielder Jack Wilshere
Wigan Athletic have opened the door for former England international Jack Wilshere to sign for them.
The owner of Ipswich Town's League One rivals has told the 29-year-old that he would be 'most welcome' at the DW Stadium.
It comes on the back of an interview Wilshere gave to The Athletic earlier this week, in which he revealed that no club had expressed an interest in his services and that he is currently training alone.
The former Arsenal, West Ham United and Bournemouth playmaker said: "I'm back to waking up, training on my own and finding that motivation. And the question I keep asking myself at the moment is: What am I doing it for?
"I said to my agent I don't want to be in that position where I'm waiting and waiting and before you know it January comes and I've almost wasted another season.
"I'm not getting any younger and I don't want that. I did that last year, so to do it again, I feel like I'd be wasting my time."
In response to the article, Wigan chairman Talal Al Hammad wrote on Twitter: "You are most welcome to join us."
It remains to be seen if Wilshere – capped 34 times by England at senior international level – would be willing to drop down into the third tier of English football, with a move abroad known to appeal to the player.
Meanwhile, Ipswich boss Paul Cook has revealed he is keen to add more players to his squad before Tuesday's transfer deadline passes.
