Marc Bircham is the current favourite with bookmakers to be appointed the next manager of Ipswich Town.

The Tractor Boys started the hunt for a new boss at the weekend after the decision was taken to part company with Paul Cook, who departs with the club sitting 11th in the EFL League One standings.

And in the market priced up by BetVictor, former Queens Park Rangers midfielder Bircham currently leads the way to replace Cook with odds of 2/1.

The ex-Canada international was most recently in charge of League of Ireland Premier Division outfit Waterford, whom he left last month following a dispute with owner Richard Forrest.

Following his exit, the 43-year-old – who has previously worked under one of Ipswich's owners Brett Johnson in a coaching capacity at Arizona United – told talkSPORT: "Our relationship was strained because I'm not a yes man.

"The owner has his son (defender George Forrest) at the club and I didn't play him. About a week ago, I told (chairman_ Mitch Cowley that he wouldn't play for me next year because I'd be bringing in better players and he might not be on the bench in the play-off.

"I'm not part of the future because I won't play his son. I'm a man of principle and it has cost me managing the play-off final, but I'd do the same again."

Other managers believed to be in the frame for the Portman Road hotseat are one-time Millwall boss Neil Harris (3/1), former Ipswich midfielder Frank Yallop (4/1) and Liam Manning (5/1) – the latter is currently in charge at MK Dons but has previously coached at Town.

Meanwhile, Chelsea legend and 106-capped England international Frank Lampard is regarded to be a 10/1 shot.
