In demand Ipswich Town Indonesia youth international Elkan Baggott signs first professional contract

Ipswich Town's sought after teenage defender Elkan Baggott has committed his future to the club by signing his first professional contract.

The 18-year-old who has represented Indonesia at youth level has put pen to paper on a deal that will see him stay at Portman Road until the summer of 2023, with the club having the option of an additional 12 months.

It comes after Premier League sides such as West Ham United and Leeds United were reported to be tracking his progress as he weighed up Town's offer.

Baggott made his debut for the Blues against Gillingham in the Papa John's (EFL) Trophy back in October, keeping a clean sheet at the heart of the defence as Paul Lambert's side won the group match 1-0.

He was also part of the travelling squad to Plymouth in December, and was named on the bench against Sunderland at Portman Road on Tuesday, although he is yet to make his league debut.

Baggott has also represented Town U23s and U18s this season, and featured in the stunning comeback victory over Fulham in the FA Youth Cup in December.

Earlier kick-off times for four matches

Meanwhile, four of Town's Sky Bet League One Tuesday evening fixtures will now kick off at the earlier time of 7pm.

Town's home match against Northampton, rescheduled from Boxing Day to February 16, is the first to have been brought forward by 45 minutes.

The Blues visit Hull City on February 23 and then Accrington Stanley on March 2, with both games now starting 45 minutes earlier than initially scheduled.

Paul Lambert's side then host Lincoln City on March 9, with this also kicking off three quarters of an hour earlier than originally agreed.
