Sone Aluko has signed a one-year contract extension with Ipswich Town, it has been confirmed.

The former Reading forward joined on a one-year deal last summer, with the option to extend that by a further 12 months if he made a set amount of appearances.

The 33-year-old made 36 appearances in all competitions for Kieran McKenna's side, scoring three times.

“I’m really excited about the upcoming campaign at Portman Road," he told the club website.

"Although we didn’t achieve what we wanted to last season, I have full confidence in the squad, coaching staff and the club as a whole. We will all give 100% then next season.

"It’s a privilege to be able to wear the Town shirt and I’m happy I get to enjoy that for at least another season.

"I can’t wait to get back out there at Portman Road in front of our supporters."

Although he didn't enjoy the most fruitful of seasons, the Town boss values Aluko's expertise and opinion off the field as well.

In April he said: "He speaks really well, sees the game well, sees exactly what we're doing here and I think he enjoys the style of play and enjoys the journey that we are on.

"He always a good one to bounce off for an opinion as well, so again a really good senior player and somebody with good experiences to share. He's very well liked, very well-respected."
