FA Cup draw: Ipswich Town to host Portsmouth in tough all-League One first round tie
Most of the minnows would have been hoping to be paired with either Ipswich Town or Portsmouth in the first round of the Emirates FA Cup - but in the end both were drawn out to face each other.
It is Ipswich who will have home advantage, but the draw could not have been much harder.
Their fellow Sky Bet League One heavyweights Pompey – two times previous winners of the FA Cup, most recently under Harry Redknapp in 2008 – are set to travel to Portman Road across the weekend of November 7-8.
The FA have announced that all first round FA Cup ties will be played behind closed doors.
Town are yet to face Portsmouth in this season's league campaign with Kenny Jackett's side set for a return to Suffolk just over a month after the cup tie on December 12.
In the 2019/20 season Town lost 1-0 at Portsmouth in December but their home game did not take place due to the season being halted due to the coronavirus pandemic.
