Ipswich Town drawn at home against Newport County in first round of the Carabao Cup

Ipswich Town will have home advantage in the first round of the 2021/22 Carabao Cup.

The Tractor Boys will play host to League Two outfit Newport County, who reached the fourth round of the competition last term.

The tie – scheduled to be played on the week commencing August 9 – will be the first meeting between the two since Ipswich beat the Welsh side 3-0 in same tournament back in 1972.

In total, the teams have clashed on 21 occasions, with Ipswich winning 12 times and Newport triumphing in the other nine.

Ipswich – four-time semi-finalists – have never previously won the League Cup.
