Peterborough United chief Barry Fry has revealed talks with Ipswich Town regarding striker Tyreece Simpson were short-lived.

The 20-year-old has told the Blues that he wants to leave the club this summer, and has subsequently handed in a transfer request.

Simpson was out of contract at the end of last season, but agreed a new one-year deal with the club last month.

Despite this, the striker is still on the hunt for a new club, with recently relegated Peterborough United one of the clubs reportedly interested.

However it appears Town do not want to sell him to a League One promotion rival, according to Posh director of football Barry Fry.

"He’s a young player who will only get better,” he told the Peterborough Telegraph.

“I did have a conversation with Ipswich about him, but nothing came from it. I got the impression they didn’t want to let him come to us as a potential rival for promotion.”
