Ipswich Town announce Freddie Sears is among those to depart while Kayden Jackson is one of five to have contracts extended
It has been a busy day at Ipswich Town, who this evening have announced their released and retained list following the conclusion of the 2020/21 campaign.
Earlier today the club confirmed that long-serving duo Luke Chambers and Cole Skuse were to leave the club, with Colchester United thought to be the pair's most likely destination.
And they have also been joined in heading through the Portman Road exit door by Freddie Sears, James Wilson, Emyr Huws and Tristan Nydam.
Former West Ham United striker Sears has clocked up 217 appearances for Blues, scoring 34 goals in that time.
He joined Town from Colchester in January 2015 and his nine goals in the second half of that campaign helped Town reach the Championship play-offs.
Wales international Huws joined Blues from Cardiff in the summer of 2017 on a four-year deal, having impressed in a loan spell.
Injuries hindered his first two years at Portman Road but he featured for the first team under former boss Paul Lambert and went on to make 55 appearances for the club, scoring five goals.
Wilson leaves Town just one appearance short of a half century after arriving as a free agent in August 2019.
Injuries have restricted his availability this season but the 32-year-old defender scored in successive weeks in March, in the win at Accrington and the home draw with Lincoln and his performances were enough for him to win the vote as the Supporters’ Player of the Year.
Academy graduate Nydam is another whose progress has been hindered by injury. The 21-year-old sustained a broken ankle and ligament damage in July 2019 and only returned to the first-team in the goalless draw with MK Dons last month. He has made 22 appearances for the senior side.
Meanwhile, the club has also confirmed they taken up the one-year extension options on the contracts of Kayden Jackson, Toto Nsiala, Janoi Donacien, Aaron Drinan and Idris El Mizouni, while Teddy Bishop's 38 appearances this term has automatically triggered an extra 12 months.
It has been suggested that the decision to retain Jackson's services will be with a view of obtaining a transfer fee for him this summer. The striker, who has not featured too often since Paul Cook took charge, has previously been the subject of interest from the likes of Bournemouth, Huddersfield and Birmingham City.
The club had already revealed Alan Judge and Stephen Ward are also among those departing.
