Ipswich School celebrates history with Hockey National Finals Day victory over Millfield
Ipswich School has been celebrating a piece of history after their Under-18 Girls’ hockey team were crowned champions for the first time at the Hockey National Finals Day.
The youngsters secured their place in the final with a commanding 3-0 victory at the expense of Scarborough.
Two pieces of impressive team play saw Ipswich School open up a healthy two-goal advantage before the outcome was wrapped up via a neatly-worked short corner routine.
However, the final against Millfield was much more of a tightly-contested affair with neither side prepared to give the other an inch.
Ipswich broke the deadlock with a deft deflection but Millfield equalised to send the encounter into penalty flicks.
And while Ipswich confidently converted each of their flicks, Millfield’s third was saved – handing the Suffolk-based school the title in the process.
“This victory is the culmination of years of hard work, dedication, and teamwork,” said Ipswich School’s head of hockey Maddy Newlyn.
“Every player contributed to this achievement, and we couldn’t be prouder of the team. They have set a new standard of excellence and will inspire generations to come.”
