Ipswich Town column: An embarrassing day on the pitch after Manchester City 6-0 loss but pride for Portman Road crowd

Sunday was a bizarre day. As I left for Portman Road that morning, I had a foolish sense of optimism and belief that we might get something against Manchester City.

Leaving the ground that evening, I soon realised how naive I was.

It was a truly humbling experience and one that won't be forgotten for a while, nor do I think it should be.

Town have had their head held high so far this season and despite one or two results, Kieran McKenna’s men have been in most of the games they've played.

Not Sunday though. Sunday was a massacre and it's something we will have to learn from.

I thought we did fine for the first 25, but once Manchester City scored, you just had to blink before it was 0-3.

It reminded me a little bit of the game with Newcastle at home last month. We bounced back well after that defeat and we've got to hope for the same with this one.

I think we saw one of the best away performances ever seen at Portman Road. City were phenomenal.

Obviously, defeats to Manchester City aren't going to be what relegates Ipswich this season, but I am a little concerned with the capitulation.

That's now 12 goals conceded in our last four at home. Something Kieran McKenna will address I'm sure.

It may have been an embarrassing day on the field, but it was certainly not off it.

I thought the Portman Road crowd was magnificent. A lot was made about fans leaving early and whether it's right or wrong not to stay and back your team until the end.

In my opinion, if you pay your money, then you're entitled to leave whenever you want. I don't think leaving or staying makes you any more of a fan.

It's a football club for thousands of people across the world, meaning we're all allowed to support in the way we want too.

Anfield next - yikes. But these are exactly the sort of games we all wanted to be a part of.

I can't wait to get there and know everybody in blue, including those in the stands, will do us proud.
