Ipswich Town column: Easter games set to be pivotal in the automatic promotion race

Good Friday’s trip to Ewood Park is a difficult one as any trip there is and I can’t see this being any different.

Town are in fine form. Put the defeat at Cardiff aside and Kieran McKenna’s men have been racking up the victories. Will we see another one? I think we will.

Blackburn are somewhat at a crossroads. John Eustace has come in and I think it’s fair to say it hasn’t quite ‘clicked’ just yet. Saying that, two weeks off due to the international break is a time to work directly with his players, which can only be a positive.

I think we win it though. We’ve often seen Town be too strong for their opponent this season and I think that could be the case here.

The reverse fixture saw one of the most entertaining matches of the campaign with Town on the right side of a 4-3 that day and I think we’ll get a good amount of goals again.

I’ll go for 3-1 Ipswich which should kick-start what promises to be a mammoth finale to an incredible season.

Southampton at Portman Road then awaits on Monday. That’s a big one, as is Blackburn, but the visit of Saints does feel it could really shape the rest of our season.

Win it, and I think that puts Russell Martin’s men out of the mix, making it a three-horse race between us, Leicester and Leeds for the top two.

Lose, however, and you’d have to think that lets them back in.

I feel confident though. I can see a draw and a victory out of these next two, but wouldn’t be surprised if we were to get all six points.

A busy Easter weekend is then followed by you know who. But let’s not go there yet and for now, just ‘take each game as it comes’, as Kieran McKenna always says.

So strap yourselves in, as the race for promotion firmly starts now.
