Ipswich Town column: Signing of Ben Godfrey provides Premier League nous that Blues have been missing with Jaden Philogene also set to join

I was disappointed we didn't win on Sunday. I think if you asked any Town fan going away to Fulham 'would they take a point?' Nine out of 10 would've said yes and I would've been one of them.

However, the way the game went, the way we played and how we were the foot of a post away from all three points, makes it feel like it's two points dropped rather than one gained.

I was really proud of the performance though and ditto for the two before.

I think we've finally figured out the best system for the Premier League and players, both old and new, are really starting to come into their own.

January has probably come at the perfect time for us, as we're doing alright and you just feel a few quality additions at the front end of the pitch could get us to where we need to be.

Defender Ben Godfrey has been first through the door and he’s another signing you would've never imagined seeing back in 2018 as once again, a former Norwich City player feels no remorse and decides to get a feel for a proper club in East Anglia. It is funny isn't it?

As for the player himself, Ben brings an abundance of Premier League experience which is something we've missed. I like this one, although with the current trio of Jacob Greaves, Luke Woolfenden and Dara O'Shea doing so well, where will he play?

I'm sure we'll see him feature against Bristol Rovers in the FA Cup on Sunday and I look forward to do doing so.

It will be the first time I've ever seen Town in the competition as a Premier League club. I'm looking forward to it, but the ghost of Maidstone is living a little rent free in my head also!

It’s a time for minutes in the legs, but also a chance for Town to build a decent cup run. Who knows where that may take us?

January has started well both on-and-off the pitch, with Jaden Philogene looking set to be signing number two.

Let's hope it continues.
