Ipswich Town column: Kalvin Phillips and Sam Morsy have started well together and in-form Liam Delap has proved people wrong

Four unbeaten in the Premier League. I wasn’t sure how often we’d get to say that this season to be honest, but we’ve managed to do it just six games in.

It’s another point towards safety, but I’m a little disappointed it wasn’t three.

Town were excellent on Sunday. Let’s not forget this was Champions League Aston Villa, who just beat Bayern.

We were superb. From minute one, Villa were in a fight and really, we should’ve got the knock out.

I’ll take the positives though, having walked away from Portman Road feeling immensely proud with acertain young man up front epitomising us.

Before I get on to him, I have to praise the impact of Kalvin Phillips, who was superb.

In his best game in a Town shirt he dominated a starstudded Villa midfield. Him and Morsy have something going on now. Sam brings the aggression, and Kalvin sweeps everything up.

Not many are going to get the better of them this season.

So now, the goalscorer and the player who feels like the main man at the moment, Liam Delap.

Liam has been superb and the best part is, he’s only going to get better.

The goals, yes, but the holdup play and work ethic is what pleased me the most. You need goals to stay in this league, and he’ll certainly get some.

Ever since Kieran McKenna arrived in December 2021, I’ve loved our style and our players. But this has to be the most exciting crop I’ve ever seen in my lifetime as an Ipswich fan.

So much talent, both young and old and I think our biggest weapon may be that we have different options all over the park who can all contribute.

London’s calling now and it feels a good time to play West Ham. I fancy us not to get just one, but maybe even three.

Come on you Blues.
