Ipswich Town's start has been far from ideal but we must keep trusting the process

If I’d written this column Tuesday night following the defeat to Cheltenham, it would have carried a totally different vibe. Instead, I’m writing this cool, calm and sipping a strong Americano. So you’re going to get optimistic Martin!

Speaking of vibes, on Tuesday night I did tweet: “It’s got Hurst vibes.” And I stick by that tweet, despite the stick it received.

Am I saying Paul Hurst is a similar pedigree of manager to Paul Cook? No. All I am saying is, after our three league games, a point separates them, so vibes it is.

Make no mistake about it this is Cook’s team – with his players – and there will be nowhere to hide.

What happens next for Cookie is entirely down to him because everyone, from Mark Ashton to the Three Lions, have done their job and given him everything he has possibly asked.

A saying that can cause frustration to fans is ‘we must trust the process’, but I’m here to tell you just that – trust the process.

It can of course be hard at times, particularly with the memories of Marcus Evans hanging over us or the pain of Tuesday night.

Years of no plan and no direction has set in. Many fans are used to just bobbing along, picturing those behind the scenes running around like Basil Fawlty.

However, make no mistake about it, that is no longer the case at Portman Road. I have spoken to a close source, and I can tell you that nothing has been left to chance this season. No stone has been left unturned and this football club is working to a plan. A clear plan that is being executed and one that’s been pressure tested over time.

Our job as fans right now is to trust the process, trust Ashton, trust the Three Lions and bring some noise to Portman Road on Saturday. Let’s make it rock against MK Dons.
