Ipswich Town's loan additions in January highlighted Paul Lambert's desperation
What’s it going to take!? Paul Lambert is still employed by Ipswich Town FC and I have to ask, is there actually anybody out there who still wants him around?
Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Crewe Alexandra wasn’t that bad and you could say ‘a good point on the road’ but, it was still a 1-1 draw with, no disrespect, Crewe.
Like many Town fans I was sure (hopeful) that would be the final nail in the coffin but we now find ourselves a week later, two new faces in the door and the probability of Lambert lingering around for a little longer.
Now I have to say, the two lads who were signed on loan on Monday look very decent acquisitions, especially for this level. Troy Parrot is a quick, aggressive centre-forward, who at just 19 has great promise but who probably needs another loan to kickstart his career.
All of a sudden our measly, lacklustre front-line has been given a huge boost and strengthening which hopefully, will quickly alter the shot-shy picture.
The second signing and for me, the one I was most excited about, is Luke Matheson from Wolves.
A dynamic, young, hungry right-back who has proved he’s more than capable of mixing it in this division.
It’s been clear for a while that our ‘bold and trusted’ full-backs have turned more into ‘old and rusted’ of late, so a strengthening in that area is welcomed.
Although I think they’re good signings and I do believe they will strengthen us, once again Lambert has gone against his words of the past and we’re beginning to look like Loan FC, with six loanees on our books.
It screams to me that Mr Lambert is becoming desperate in his bid to turn this all around.
It really is now or never with some winnable games on the horizon and with Evans’ patience surely wearing thinner, Mr Lambert has to win games to not just save his job, but his future in the game.
