Ipswich Town fans have a bright future to relish after Marcus Evans agrees to sell the club
The moment most Ipswich supporters have been waiting for – Marcus Evans is no longer our majority shareholder and owner. WE HAVE NEW OWNERS! Suddenly, it’s an exciting time to be an Ipswich fan.
Following an embarrassing 0-0 draw at rock bottom Rochdale, a game which saw us have no shots on target, I felt that the fanbase was really ready for change.
I felt that the fans had a hunger for new voices, new approaches. And finally the hoping and wishing many have done for weeks is over and it’s a time for renewed optimism.
Thirteen years of decline are over. We have a new voice, a new vision, a new approach and new vigour at our club. We have people excited about owning the club. We have people who have a passion to see this historic club back at the top table.
Even if the new owners never put a penny in, which of course they will, there will still be a new voice and a new plan, two things this club has desperately needed for years.
I have been lucky enough to speak with some people close to the new owners and I am beyond excited about the vision they have for our club.
We have nine games left to play and bizarrely we’re still only three points outside the play-offs, so the opportunity to play for Championship status is still alive.
We go again Saturday and the target is still six wins. Could this be the spark to ignite us again? As always, I’ll be covering it live on YouTube so come and get together with more than a thousand other Ipswich fans on a matchday.
Now, let’s also get the word of warning out of the way. ‘We all thought this was a new dawn when Evans took charge’ some will cry.
Yes, you may well be right, but after nothing but disappointment after disappointment, downgrade after downgrade, something had to change and at some point as a football club we had to make the leap of faith – that’s exactly what this is.
