Ipswich Town column: More to come after first Championship win of the season against a poor Sheffield United side

Five games in, five goals scored and a memorable night at Portman Road.

Isn't it nice to have that winning feeling again? Especially a thrashing like that, although Ipswich Town's opponents did their best to assist with that.

Despite the five-goal margin, I don’t think we played that well and I suspect we have more levels to go through. And that can only be a good thing, as winning 5-0 without being at your best is something to admire!

I was just happy to win. It had been far too long and despite the state our opposition was in, a 5-0 victory at home is always going to be good for confidence and morale moving forwards.

Town began to purr at 5-0 and those 20 minutes where we quite literally took the mick (for want of a better word) were amazing and again, exactly what the doctor ordered.

Was that the night Jaden Philogene's Town career burst into life? I think it was.

Yes, his former team-mate Ben Godfrey had a little something to do with it (how bad was he by the way!?) but the quality of all three of Jaden's goals are not be sniffed at. He was excellent and I expect him to keep being so now.

Jaden was great but I was equally as pleased for Jack Clarke, who has two goals in two now at Portman Road. We all know the quality of them two, we’re now seeing it more regularly and with both of them fighting for the same position, it further strengthens us in an already strong area.

Up next it’s a trip to Ewood Park – a ground where Town won at in their promotion-winning campaign back in 2024. That was an ugly, scrappy victory and to be honest, I’d take the same again this weekend.

I don’t think a trip to Blackburn will ever be deemed 'easy', but after a slow start, I think it's important Town put a run of victories on the board now and I hope and expect them to do the business Saturday.

Time to build, time to grow and time to show this league that we mean business.
