Ipswich Town column: Joey Sadler praises goalkeeper Aro Muric ahead of club’s ‘six-pointer clash’ at Southampton
Scoreless draws and Ipswich Town don’t go hand in hand these days.
It wasn’t that long ago that 0-0s were almost gold dust to then manager Mick McCarthy.
Nowadays though, if the opposition aren’t scoring, Town probably are.
Saturday, however, saw Kieran McKenna’s men go and get an excellent 0-0 draw away at The Amex.
You’d have liked this one Mick; a proper ‘ride the storm’ job.
As I stood behind Aro Muric’s goal during the first half, it really did look like a case of when and not if Brighton were about to stick the ball in Town’s net.
Thankfully it never happened, with our big Kosovan shot-stopper coming to the rescue.
Aro didn't have the best start to his Town career and I've been concerned, especially after his showing away at Man City.
But his weekend display, after the back of his international expulsion, was phenomenal, with the double saves from Kaoru Mitoma two of the greatest I've seen from a Town goalkeeper.
As for the game, we rode our luck. But as it went on, I fancied us more and more, especially when Jack Clarke was on the pitch.
I love him. Baggy shorts, pink boots and a hair band may not be everybody's cup of tea, but when he's jinking in and out and causing danger like that, he's a joy to watch and he'll win us points.
Almost three weeks on since the window shut, it seems Town's newest recruits are starting to bed in nicely into the system.
I also thought Dara O'Shea looked good on Saturday as well as Chiedozie Ogbene, who had a really exciting cameo off the bench,
Things are looking promising and we've had a decent start, pending what happens this weekend.
Even this early on, Southampton away feels massive. I know we're only in September, but genuinely I think this has a 'six pointer' feel about it.
Losing feels unthinkable. But winning? Just imagine the confidence that would give us. COYB!
