Ipswich Town have no promotion excuses after two cup exits
Losing to lower league teams in the cup, déjà vu? Or just what we’ve become to expect with Ipswich Town?
Nonetheless, in the past seven days the Tractor Boys have crashed out of both remaining cup competitions, meaning the only football left is in the league.
I know a lot of you had a chuckle at my referee rant last week and believe me, from Saturday’s defeat to Portsmouth in the FA Cup, I could do much of the same, if not worse!
But I actually want to put that all behind us now and focus on the only thing left and important in Ipswich Town’s season: the league.
So much was said last campaign about Lambert’s rotation policy and the sheer amount of football we were made to play, with games coming thick and fast and I have to be honest, we did look out of steam come the new year when our demise began.
So with us out of everything else, Lambert and his players simply have no excuses why they should not be fighting right up there for promotion and in my opinion, anything else is a failure.
As fans, we’ve endured so much heartbreak over the past few years and I have to ask, what do we actually expect from our once great football club? I know the days of winning FA and UEFA cups are long gone, but without being too biased, it’s clear to see this football club should certainly not be in League One. And if stature, history and size was anything to go by, shouldn’t be too far off the Premier League.
But have we all become a little too complacent? Don’t get me wrong we are where we are for a reason, but can you truthfully say we currently have the right men in place to get us out?
With all that said, it is simply imperative Lambert gets us out of this division and Marcus Evans needs to fix up and support him.
I want Lambert to succeed. He got us all on board when he took over, but if this demise continues, I simply see no other alternative than change at Portman Road.
