Ipswich Town fan Joey Sadler says eye-catching Portsmouth victory needs to be followed up with a win against Fleetwood Town at Portman Road
Supporting Ipswich Town is a funny old life, isn’t it? After Saturday’s slip-up at Cambridge, Paul Cook’s men were left having to pick themselves up again as they travelled down south to visit a struggling Portsmouth side.
If you had of said to me this time last week Town would pick up four points in their next two away games, I’d have taken that, it’s just in true Ipswich fashion that they’ve gone and done it in the hardest route possible!
Tuesday was a fantastic night to be a Blue. Portsmouth have certainly had a lot to say about us this season, so to go down there and humiliate them at Fratton Park was magical.
After a scrappy first half once again it was Macauley Bonne kick-starting the party by embarrassing yet another League One goalkeeper.
Quick, aggressive, slick football with three more brilliant goals scored meant it was a perfect night for The Tractor Boys. Paul Cook’s men were absolutely fantastic.
It’s now easier to forget the huge disappointment of Town dropping a two-goal lead at Cambridge, but we simply must remain focused.
Town’s biggest problem this season has been their inconsistency, so Tuesday’s win has to be followed up with another three points at home to Fleetwood Town on Saturday.
Win that and all of a sudden Ipswich go into tough away days at Plymouth, Wycombe and Sunderland full of confidence, and that’s where we could really see this season come to life.
En-route to Cambridge last weekend I had the pleasure of bumping into Ipswich CEO Mark Ashton. Mark was brilliant and not only gave us his time for a chat, but also got a round of drinks in too!
The passion, desire and hunger to take this football club back to where it belongs shone through and it was pleasing to hear so much honesty about the previous years of languishing not being acceptable.
We’ve got lots of good people now representing our football club and those who feature on the pitch are slowly becoming the stars of that.
