Ipswich Town youngster Elkan Baggott selected by Indonesia's senior squad for the first time

Ipswich Town defender Elkan Baggott has been called up to the senior Indonesia squad for the first time.

The centre-back will link up with his new international team-mates on May 1 for a 10-day training camp, which is being used as preparation for three World Cup qualifying encounters in early June.

Indonesia will face Thailand, Vietnam and United Arab Emirates in those fixtures, although previous results mean they are unable to reach next year's competition in Qatar.

Baggott, who signed a new contract at Portman Road in January, has previously been capped at under-19 level.

More recently he has been on loan at National League outfit King's Lynn Town, for whom he has made a total of six appearances.

The 18-year-old is also expected to feature for Ipswich in Friday's home quarter-final FA Youth Cup encounter against Sheffield United (5pm).

* Meanwhile, Ipswich have announced that they will have a new shirt sponsor – yet to be identified – next season, with their current deal with The Rank Group PLC set to expire at the end of the 2020/21 campaign.
