Ipswich Town: Defender Elkan Baggott joins League One side Blackpool on loan and Andre Dozzell signs Portsmouth deal
Ipswich Town defender Elkan Baggott is ‘excited’ to play his part after joining League One side Blackpool on loan for the 2024/25 season.
According to Suffolk News’ media partners TWTD, the Seasiders had targeted the 21-year-old centre-back in last season’s summer transfer window.
The Indonesia international spent the second half of last season on loan at Bristol Rovers who were among multiple other clubs keen to sign him ahead of the upcoming campaign.
Town are able to cut the season-long deal short in January if they wish.
Baggott told the Blackpool official website: “It’s a great feeling to finally be here and I’m excited to play my part in what will hopefully be a successful season for the club.
“I’ve had some good conversations with the head coach (Neil Critchley) and sporting director (David Downes) over recent weeks.
“The way the team plays, the group that is already here – it’s all extremely positive.
“I know a number of other players who are here too and they’ve all had good things to say.
“I’m looking forward to the upcoming season and can’t wait to get started.”
Baggott has already had loan spells at King’s Lynn Town, Gillingham and Cheltenham Town.
He could make his debut for the Tangerines away at Crawley on Saturday afternoon.
Former Blues midfielder Andre Dozzell has also joined Portsmouth who secured promotion to the Championship last season.
The 25-year-old was released by QPR at the end of the 2023/2024 campaign following a move to Loftus Road from Town in the summer of 2021 for a fee of £1 million.
He had been on trial at Sheffield United and scored in a 3-0 friendly victory over Chesterfield last month, but the Town academy product has now signed for Pompey on a one-year deal with the club having an option for another season.
Manager John Mousinho said to the official Portsmouth website: “Andre brings plenty of Championship experience, having spent the majority of his career at this level.
“He’s chosen to come here over other options and is someone who has a real ambition to succeed at this club.
“Andre is a very technical midfielder and has the athleticism to get around the pitch and compete, so we’re delighted to welcome him to Pompey.”
