Ipswich Town forward Conor Chaplin wins League One Player of the Month award

Ipswich Town forward Conor Chaplin has scooped the League One Player of the Month award for December.

The 25-year-old scored four times in five games as the Blues collected eight points during the month.

Those goals included a brace against Peterborough United, as well as finishes against Oxford United on Boxing Day and in the 2-2 draw with Portsmouth.

He is the first ever Town player to win the award.

"It's nice recognition for a good month from a team point of view as well as a personal point of view," Chaplin told the club website.

"I'm in a really good team and I'm fully aware of that. It's a lot easier to perform and to score goals - which is probably why you get these awards - when you are getting chances from your team-mates.

"Winning the club's Player of the Month award meant a lot as well because that one is voted for by the fans who pay to come and watch us every week."

Kieran McKenna added: "He's been a pleasure to work with ever since we came in. He's got such a love for the game first and foremost.

"He wants to get better, wants to learn and wants to improve. He's an important part of it here in a strong group, and he contributes to that with his attitude.

"I'm sure he'd be the first one to say that individual accolades are a reflection on his team-mates; how they work with him, create for him and link-up with him. At the same time, it's nice to see him get that recognition."
