Kieran McKenna signs new four-year contract at Ipswich Town
Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna has committed his future to the club by signing a new four-year contract –keeping him with the Blues until the summer of 2028.
Rumours had circulated over the past few weeks regarding the 38-year-old’s future at Portman Road after he guided the Town to the Premier League following back-to-back promotions.
The former Manchester United assistant manager had been linked with a move back to the Red Devils, as well as the vacant jobs at fellow Premier League sides, Chelsea and Brighton, but the rumours will spiral no more as the Northern Irishman has put pen to paper with Ipswich.
Speaking to the club’s media team, McKenna said: “I am extremely proud to have signed a new contract with the Club.
“We have enjoyed incredible success together over the last two seasons and I’m excited to have the opportunity and responsibility of leading this fantastic Club into its first season in the Premier League in 22 years.
“Preparation and planning for the challenge ahead has been ongoing since we won promotion at the beginning of May, with plenty of work still to do before the start of the new season at what is such an exciting time for everyone at the Club.”
The Athletic first broke the news that McKenna, who joined Town in December 2021, was expected to sign a long-term contract with the club.
SuffolkNews’ media partners TWTD also understood this to be the case and reported that majority shareholder Ed Schwartz had flown over to the UK last week to hold talks with CEO Mark Ashton the Town boss.
McKenna’s side finished runners-up to Leicester City in the Sky Bet Championship last season with a staggering 96 points in the club’s return to the second tier of English football and will go toe-to-toe with football’s elite for the first time in 22 years next campaign.
His previous deal, signed after promotion from League One in 2023, ran until 2027.
