Ipswich Town complete signing of former Manchester United, Inter Milan and England player Ashley Young

Ipswich Town have completed the signing of Ashley Young on a free transfer.

Recent speculation revealed that the Tractor Boys were close to bringing in the 40-year-old, who won the Premier League, FA Cup and Europa League during his time at Manchester United.

It was during his stint with the Red Devils that Young first crossed paths with Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna –and the pair have now been reunited at Portman Road.

He arrives in Suffolk on a one-year deal having made 750 club appearances, 32 of which came in the Premier League for Everton last term.

Speaking to the club’s website, McKenna said of his latest recruit: “Ashley has had a fantastic career and his achievements speak for themselves.

“He has maintained an extremely high level of professionalism and competitiveness through his career and he is still playing at a very good level.

“We feel his leadership and experience will be valuable to the group this season and he is very hungry to contribute on and off the pitch. It’s a very strong signing for the group and the club.”

Young, who was capped on 39 occasions by England, also won the Serie A title during a two-season stay at Inter Milan.
