Ipswich Town suffer first defeat under Kieran McKenna as Bolton Wanderers take all three points in Lancashire
After succumbing to his first defeat as Ipswich Town boss, Kieran McKenna said his side weren't good enough in front of goal.
The Blues arrived at the University of Bolton Stadium in a bullish mood, having won McKenna's first two games in charge without conceding a goal.
However, despite dominating possession and chunks of the game, Town fell to their first defeat under the former Manchester United assistant manager.
Second half goals from Kieran Lee and Oladapo Afolayan saw Bolton earn their first win in the league since a 3-0 triumph against Doncaster Rovers.
Speaking to iFollow Ipswich after the game, McKenna said: "We thought we done some good things in the game. I think 2-0 is a harsh scoreline in terms of the balance of play and the chances in the game, but that is the way it goes.
"We made some mistakes for the goals. We didn't create chances on their end; we didn't take the chances we had, and if you do that then you don't give yourself a great chance to win.
"There wasn't loads in it. I thought Bolton were at it, to be fair."
After a resounding 4-0 win against Gillingham, Town fans were hopeful heading to Lancashire, just 25 minutes away from McKenna's former residence.
While the Blues have been brought back down to earth, they will have to lick their wounds and prepare for a run of six games in three weeks.
"It doesn't feel like to many positives at the moment as we are disappointed - we wanted to win the game.," said the Town boss.
"But it is about improving and learning. We have had a couple of good results, this is a setback, it was always going to be that way. We look at where we can do better and be ready for Accrington now.
"We are long way behind where we want to be, so at the moment it's not about points totals, it is about improving.
"We can't afford to many more days like this. We can't afford to give away results when, in my opinion, we have been the better team for large chunks of the game."
