Ipswich Town: Wales international Wes Burns on extending his stay in Suffolk

Wes Burns has spoke of his delight after it was revealed the Welsh international has penned a new two-year deal at Ipswich Town, extending his stay at Portman Road until the summer of 2026.

The 29-year-old winger, who signed under previous manager Paul Cook from Fleetwood Town back in the summer of 2021, has made 127 appearances for the Tractor Boys to date, scoring 28 goals.

His time in Suffolk so far has seen him help the club to gain back-to-back promotions to the Premier League under Kieran McKenna’s guidance. And the eight-times Wales capped player etched his name further into Town folklore by scoring in both victories that saw them secure elevation from League One and the Championship, against Exeter City and Huddersfield Town respectively.

“This has been an amazing club for me,” the player who came through the ranks at Bristol City told the club’s website.

“I’ve enjoyed my time here both as a person and as a player. When I signed three years ago I probably didn’t expect us to be where we are today, but it’s been an incredible journey.

“This is one of the best groups I could ever wish to work with. There is a real togetherness here and I am delighted to have signed a new deal.”

Having made his top-flight debut at home to Liverpool last month, Burns has since been left recovering from a hamstring injury which saw him leave the field early in the second half, but is said to now be working his way back to full fitness.

He is one of two players to have extended their stays at Portman Road over the international break, with goalkeeper Christan Walton also penning a new deal.

Town are set to resume their Premier League campaign with back-to-back away games on the south coast, beginning at Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday before taking on Southampton the following weekend (both 3pm).
