Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna beats West Brom boss Carlos Corberan, Leeds United’s Daniel Farke and Norwich City head coach David Wagner to Manager of the Month award.
Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna has been named the Sky Bet Championship Manager of the Month for March.
The Blues collected four wins from their five league matches last month to maintain their push for automatic promotion to the Premier League.
A 2-0 victory at Plymouth Argyle was followed by a breath-taking comeback at Portman Road which saw Town fall behind twice before overcoming Bristol City 3-2, courtesy of a 89th-minute winner from Leif Davis who was pipped to the league’s Player of the Month award by West Brom’s Mikey Johnston.
Town’s only loss in March came at the Cardiff City Stadium where two goals in second half stoppage time saw the Bluebirds snatch victory against McKenna’s side. The visitors had taken the lead through Welsh international Kieffer Moore with 10 minutes remaining.
But the Blues always respond to defeat under the 37-year-old, and they did this emphatically on March 16 by hammering relegation-threatened Sheffield Wednesday 6-0 at Portman Road before Conor Chaplin’s goal after nine minutes secured an important 1-0 win away at Blackburn Rovers on Good Friday.
McKenna, who was also the Championship’s Manager of the Month in September, beat West Brom boss Carlos Corberan, Leeds United’s Daniel Farke and Norwich City head coach David Wagner to the award.
McKenna said: “Whether it’s as a staff member or as a player, awards are always reflective of the team.
“Any Manager of the Month award is really a reflection of the work of the players on the pitch, and the work of the players on the pitch is a reflection of the work of so many people at the training ground and also at the stadium.
“It’s nice to share these things with the staff. We won this award this time last year and shared it with the staff at that point, and it was nice to speak to some of the staff about that today 12 months on."
