Ipswich Town: Defender George Edmundson joins Championship club Middlesbrough on loan
George Edmundson has departed Ipswich Town on transfer deadline day to join Middlesbrough on loan for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.
The 27-year-old defender, who has played one game so far this term having come off the bench against Manchester City last weekend, will look to get regular action with Michael Carrick’s Boro side.
He becomes the fourth player to leave the Portman Road club in a loan switch on the final day of the summer transfer window, following on from striker Freddie Ladapo, young forward Leon Ayinde and winger Marcus Harness.
A Town statement said: “We wish George all the best during his time at Riverside Stadium.”
It comes after Kieran McKenna had added Republic of Ireland international Dara O’Shea and Hull City’s Jacob Greaves to bolster his defensive ranks, leaving Edmundson well down the pecking order.
He had joined Town on a four-year deal from Glasgow Rangers in the summer of 2021 and went on to make 71 starts and four sub appearances, scoring five times.
