Ipswich Town: Kieran McKenna’s side to face Nottingham Forest in FA Cup fifth round
Ipswich Town will play against Nottingham Forest in the last 16 of the Emirates FA Cup and will be looking to end their long-running winless streak at The City Ground.
Exeter City secured a 2-2 draw after 90 minutes against the Tricky Trees but the League One side were then beaten on penalties in their fourth-round tie yesterday.
It means Town and Forest will meet at the City Ground for the second time this season, after Nuno Espírito Santo’s side won 1-0 against the Blues in the Premier League in November.
The two teams meet again in the league on March 15, with the ties for the next round of the FA Cup scheduled to take place over the weekend of March 1/2.
The Blues travel to The City Ground hoping to end a 15-game winless run there, stretching back all the way to when George Burley masterminded a 1-0 win in December, 1999, en route to promotion to the Premier League from the then Nationwide First Division.
Town have met The Tricky Trees on four previous occasions in the FA Cup, the first two coming in the 1980/81 season in the quarter-finals when they drew 3-3 at The City Ground before winning the replay 1-0 at Portman Road.
Forest currently sit third in the table and have only lost five times in the league.
Kieran McKenna’s men are in the fifth round of the FA Cup for the first time in 18 years following victories against Bristol Rovers and Coventry.
