Ipswich Town: Axel Tuanzebe, Jacob Greaves and Jack Taylor nearing return to action with no new injuries ahead of Tottenham Hotspur clash

A trio of Ipswich Town players are nearing a return to action with no fresh injury concerns in the squad ahead of Sunday's fixture against Tottenham Hotspur.

Axel Tuanzebe is likely to be available for selection following the international break after cutting his hand while washing up, a freak accident which required surgery with the defender having been in danger of losing his thumb.

Jacob Greaves and Jack Taylor are also on their way back into the Town squad with the duo both recovering from hamstring issues.

Kieran McKenna’s side has struggled with a number of injuries already this season, but there are no new issues to deal with after Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Leicester.

At today’s pre-match press conference, the Blues boss said on injuries in the squad: “Nothing new since last weekend, so we're pretty much in the same position.

“The boys who are returning from injury are progressing well and I think after the international break if this weekend goes well, we'll be in a strong position.

“Axel has a cast fitted now, so he’s able to join in some contact training and will definitely be fine after the break, unless there are any issues.

“Jacob is almost in full training, not full training yet and Jack Taylor will hopefully commence training over the international break.”

Centre-back Dara O’Shea, signed from Burnley in the summer, continues to play through his back injury, which McKenna says the Irish international will be with him for a while yet.

He said: “He’s managed it incredibly well. It was an unfortunate situation for him to get the injury and have to play through internationals with it, but he’s managed it incredibly well through pain and through very limited training, he’s made himself available and will hopefully be available this weekend.

“He has an issue in his back that I probably won’t go into the medical details of.

“He has an issue from an impact in his back that he picked up in the West Ham game, so it’s something that’s going to need to be managed for quite a period of time. Hopefully, it will get better as time goes on but he’s managed it terrifically so far.”

McKenna says midfielder Massimo Luongo is fine, despite being left out of the Australia squad, and Jens Cajuste was left out of the Sweden squad to help manage the knee issue, which recently kept him out of action.

The Tractor Boys will be without Kalvin Phillips on Sunday, who is suspended for one match following last week’s red card, while right-back Harry Clarke is available again following his dismissal at Brentford.

Town have failed to win any of their opening 10 league fixtures, a club record from the start of a top-flight season - four short of their longest such streak in any division, set in the Championship under Roy Keane in the 2009/10 campaign.

The Suffolk side have opened the scoring in five of 10 league games this term, losing two and drawing three of those matches.

On the other hand, Tottenham have come from behind to win 24 points at home this calendar year – 10 more than any other Premier League team.

Ange Postecoglou’s side are currently seventh in the league and beat Unai Emery’s Aston Villa 4-1 last weekend.

In other news, youngsters Omari Hutchinson and Liam Delap have been named in the England U21s squad for their friendlies against Spain and the Netherlands during the international break.

Centre-half Cameron Burgess has also been named in the Australia squad for their World Cup qualifiers.
