Ipswich Town recall George Edmundson from Middlesbrough loan after reportedly rejecting two transfer offers
Ipswich Town have recalled George Edmundson from his loan spell with Middlesbrough after the two clubs failed to agree a fee regarding a permanent transfer.
It is believed that Championship outfit Boro have had two offers rejected by Ipswich for the 27-year-old, who has made 21 appearances after making the switch to Teeside in August.
According to reports, Boro’s first proposal was worth £350,000 plus another £350,000 should they get promoted to the Premier League, while the second bid went as high as £500,000 alongside the extra £350,000 if they go up.
Both offers fell short of Ipswich’s valuation and so yesterday they opted to exercise the recall clause in the loan deal.
Discussing the situation with Teeside Live after last night’s 2-0 win over West Bromwich Albion, Boro boss Michael Carrick said: “We knew it (the recall) was a possibility. We didn't know when it might come.
“The ball was in their court in terms of that situation. What happens next, we'll have to wait and see. It's not long happened so we'll explore what happens next. It's something we'll look at for sure. George has done well but it needs to be right for all parties so we'll see how that goes.”
Due to the fact that Edmundson appeared for Ipswich in their 4-1 defeat at Manchester City earlier in the season, league rules state that he is not permitted to play for another club this season.
The centre-back, who joined Ipswich from Rangers in 2021, is out of contract at Portman Road in the summer.
