Chelsea striker Armando Broja set for Ipswich Town medical ahead of loan move to Portman Road
Chelsea striker Armando Broja is reportedly set for a medical at Ipswich Town ahead of a season-long loan move to Portman Road.
It was first reported last night by the EADT that the Blues had agreed a deal with the Stamford Bridge club for the 22-year-old and now the frontman is set to become Town’s 10th signing of the summer.
Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that there will be a ‘mandatory buy clause’ in Broja’s contract should the Blues avoid relegation from the Premier League this season, which would see the Chelsea academy graduate move for £30 million.
He also stated the west London side will cover Broja’s wages this term.
The striker spent the second half of last season on loan at fellow Premier League side Fulham where he only made eight appearances, scoring once, following his 19 games under Mauricio Pochettino between September and January.
Broja enjoyed a fruitful season-long loan spell at Southampton during the 2021/22 campaign where he scored nine goals in 38 appearances across all competitions and was also on target 11 times from 34 outings at Vitesse the season before.
The 23-times capped Albania international suffered an ACL injury in 2023 and has struggled for gametime at Chelsea.
Broja is set to join fellow Chelsea academy graduate Omari Hutchinson at Portman Road, who became Town’s record signing earlier in the window. Blues boss Kieran McKenna has also completed the additions of Aro Muric, Ben Johnson, Jacob Greaves, Conor Townsend, Kalvin Phillips, Jens Cajuste, Sammie Szmodics and Liam Delap.
