Transfer talk: Ipswich Town in discussions to sign former Norwich City and Everton defender Ben Godfrey on loan from Atalanta

Ipswich Town are reportedly in talks to sign former Norwich City defender Ben Godfrey.

The 26-year-old, who won the Sky Bet Championship title with the Canaries in 2019, joined Serie A outfit Atalanta from Everton in a deal thought to be worth £11m during the summer transfer window.

However, the centre-back has so far struggled to force his way into head coach Gian Piero Gasperini’s side. Godfrey has made just five appearances in all competitions this term, with only one of those coming in a league fixture.

And according to Italian football reporter Fabrizio Romano, Ipswich are keen to offer the two-capped England international a route back to the Premier League.

The speculation claims that the Tractor Boys and Atalanta are currently locked in discussions over a move that would see Godfrey head to Portman Road on loan until the end of the season.

Godfrey is the second player to be linked with a switch to Ipswich in recent days following suggestions that Aston Villa winger Jaden Philogene could be bound for Suffolk – a story that boss Kieran McKenna did not want to comment on during his press conference this afternoon.
