Ipswich Town reportedly in advanced talks to sign Barnsley forward Conor Chaplin
A forward or left winger who has scored 50 professional goals across 240 appearances in all competitions with his Football League clubs is said to be in 'advanced talks' with Ipswich Town over a permanent drop down from the Championship.
The EADT is reporting Conor Chaplin, who can also operate behind a striker in a No.10 role, is on the verge of agreeing a deal to leave play-off semi-finalists Barnsley for a shot at League One promotion with Paul Cook's Blues. TWTD has since reported a move could be finalised before the end of this week.
The 24-year-old has held down a regular place at the Oakwell club over the past two seasons, scoring four times and assisting three goals in 34 Championship appearances last term (31 starts).
The 5ft 7in tall player is known for his quick feet and having a habit of scoring some specatuclar goals, including from free-kicks.
He signed a four-year deal at Barnsley in July 2019, having come through the youth ranks at Portsmouth –where he played under Town boss Cook – before a spell in League One with Coventry City.
Barnsley are likely to require a significant fee for his signature with website Transfermarkt having valued him at £900,000 only last month.
Meanwhile, Football Insider is reporting Glasgow Rangers defender George Edmundson has agreed to join Town, following earlier reports of the Blues tabling a £1million bid.
