Transfer talk: Liverpool reject £16m offer from Ipswich Town for Scotland international Ben Doak
Liverpool have reportedly rejected a bid from Ipswich Town for Ben Doak.
According to The Athletic, Ipswich’s offer for the young Scotland international was worth £16m.
However, Liverpool – who are also believed to have turned down Crystal Palace’s £15m proposal for the 19-year-old earlier this week – are said to value the teenager at more than £25m.
Speculation claims that the Merseysiders rate the former Celtic youngster highly and having seen the likes of Crysencio Summerville (£25m to West Ham United) and Wilson Odobert (£30m to Tottenham Hotspur) seal transfers in the summer, those are the deals that they have used as a benchmark in their pricing.
The report adds that Ipswich could return with an improved offer for Doak, who is currently on loan at Middlesbrough in the Championship. The attacking midfielder has impressed during his 20 appearances for Michael Carrick’s side, from which he has scored two goals.
As is stands Doak is due to remain on Teeside until the end of the season, but that deal can be terminated if an agreement over a permanent move elsewhere is reached.
Earlier today Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna made no secret of his desire to bolster his attacking options during this month’s transfer window.
The Tractor Boys have also been linked with a move for Aston Villa winger Jaden Philogene, who turned down a switch to Portman Road during the summer.
