Ipswich Town's departing skipper Luke Chambers reportedly closing in on Colchester United move

Exiting Ipswich Town captain Luke Chambers is reportedly close to completing a move to lower-league Colchester United.

It was confirmed at the end of the 2020/21 season that the centre-back was to leave Portman Road this summer on a free transfer having made almost 400 appearances for the club.

Subsequent speculation suggested that the 35-year-old was looking to remain in League One, with Gillingham said to be among the clubs interested in his services.

However, according to the Colchester Gazette, the League Two U's are confident of finalising a deal to take Chambers to the JobServe Community Stadium this week.

Should the former Nottingham Forest man rubber stamp the move, he will link up again with Cole Skuse, who last month sealed a switch from Ipswich down the A12.
