Transfer Talk: Ipswich Town close to completing £10m deal to sign Norwich City and Chile midfielder Marcelino Nunez
Marcelino Nunez is reportedly set to become the first player to directly swap Norwich City for Ipswich Town in more than 20 years.
According to a number of outlets, the Chilean midfielder has travelled to Suffolk to complete the formalities of a deal that is thought to be worth in the region of £10m (£7.5m initial fee plus £2.5m in add-ons).
Nunez has made 119 appearances for the Canaries since his arrival from Universidad Catolica in the summer of 2022, scoring 12 goals in the process.
And one of those is likely to be well remembered by Town fans – a free-kick during the 2023/24 season that settled the outcome of the East Anglian derby at Carrow Road.
The 25-year-old has just 12 months remaining on his Norwich contract and it is believed that he has rejected two separate proposals to extend his stay.
And now it would appear that he will follow in the footsteps of goalkeeper Andy Marshall, who joined the Tractor Boys form Norwich back in 2001.
The 30-capped Chile international will be a welcome addition to an Ipswich midfield that has seen Sam Morsy, Massimo Luongo and loanee Kalvin Phillips all move on this summer.
Nunez is, however, said to be currently nursing a slight ankle injury that has prevented him from playing since Norwich’s 2-1 win at Portsmouth on August 16.
