Ipswich Town striker Joe Pigott reportedly a target of Portsmouth

Portsmouth have reportedly lodged an enquiry to Ipswich Town with regards to the availability of Joe Pigott.

The former Charlton Athletic and Cambridge United frontman joined the Tractor Boys on a three-year deal last summer following his departure from AFC Wimbledon.

However, despite boasting a good record in front of goal for the Dons, Pigott struggled to replicate that form throughout Ipswich's 2021/22 EFL League One campaign. From a total of 29 appearances (14 starts) the 28-year-old found the back of the net on just three occasions.

Nevertheless, that has not put off Pompey, who according to Portsmouth News have made contact with Ipswich about potentially bringing Pigott to Fratton Park.

And the report adds that the Suffolk club would be prepared to loan out the frontman with the option to buy.

Portsmouth's 2022/23 campaign gets under way on July 30 against Sheffield Wednesday but as it stands manager Danny Cowley does not have a single senior centre-forward within his squad.

Both Ipswich and Portsmouth are thought to be keen on bringing in Leicester City striker George Hirst, who impressed while on loan with the latter last term.

Speculation last week claimed Ipswich had seen a bid rejected for the former England youth international, with Championship clubs also believed to be in the running for his signature.

Accrington Stanley’s Colby Bishop is also thought to be a target of Portsmouth as they rush to bolster their attacking options in time for the big kick off.
