Ipswich Town linked with transfer move for former Manchester United, Inter Milan, Aston Villa, Everton and England player Ashley Young after return to Watford fell through

Ipswich Town are reportedly close to securing the services of Ashley Young.

The 40-year-old, who won the Premier League with Manchester United and the Serie A title during a stint at Inter Milan, had been expected to return to Watford this summer, having started his professional career with the Hornets more than 20 years ago.

However, according to the Watford Observer, that move has now fallen through due to the former England international’s wage demands.

And it has since been reported by talkSPORT that Young will instead link up with the Tractor Boys on a one-year deal.

Young, who made 39 senior appearances in an England shirt, is a free agent having been released by Everton at the end of last season.

Should a move to Ipswich go through it would see him reunited with Town boss Kieran McKenna, with the pair having previously worked together at Man United.

Speaking last year about McKenna, Young said: “I think he's got everything to be a top, top manager.

“I worked with him at Manchester United and saw how much passion he's got for football, the love he's got for football and just how he wants to be successful.

“Obviously, he's younger than me, he's just one of those coaches that wants to be successful. He's got everything there to be a successful manager.”

Young, who also had a spell in the top flight with Aston Villa, has made more than 750 senior appearances throughout his career.
