Ipswich Town captain Sam Morsy reportedly close to completing switch to Kuwait
Ipswich Town captain Sam Morsy will reportedly leave the club in the near future.
According to both the East Anglian Daily Times and TWTD, the 33-year-old has not travelled with the rest of the Ipswich squad for their pre-season trip to Austria and is instead closing in on a move to the Middle East.
The midfielder, who joined the Tractor Boys in 2021 from Middlesbrough, has recently been linked with a switch to fellow Championship outfit Derby County.
However, the recent speculation has reported that Morsy is expected to accept an offer to join Kuwait SC, who won the Kuwait Premier League last season.
Morsy still has 12 months remaining on his contract at Portman Road, but providing that he moves abroad, it is believed that Ipswich will not demand a transfer fee as recognition of his service to the club.
Having been signed by former boss Paul Cook, Morsy was an influential figure in Kieran McKenna’s side that achieved back-to-back promotions from League One to the Premier League.
Should his departure go through, the Egypt international will move on having featured on 165 occasions in an Ipswich shirt, from which he has scored 11 goals.
