Ipswich Town reportedly beat Sunderland and Luton Town to sign Middlesbrough defender Hayden Coulson on loan

Ipswich Town are reportedly on the verge of bringing in Hayden Coulson on loan from Middlesbrough.

A number of clubs – including Sunderland and Luton Town – have been linked with the 23-year-old this summer.

However, according to TWTD, it is the Tractor Boys that have won the race for the player, who can either play as a left-back or in a more advanced midfield position.

The deal may still take a few days to be finalised, but it is not anticipated that there will be any last-minute hitches.

Coulson, who has made almost 50 senior appearances for his Championship employers, will become the second left-sided defender to join Ipswich during the off-season following the arrival of Matt Penney from Sheffield Wednesday.

The former England youth international has previously had loan stints north of the border with St Mirren and down the A14 at Cambridge United.
