Ipswich Town linked with permanent transfer of Mexico Gold Cup winner and Deportivo Toluca midfielder Marcel Ruiz
Ipswich Town are reportedly in discussions to secure the services of Mexico international Marcel Ruiz.
According to Mexican outlet Super Deportivo, Town have opened up discussions with Deportivo Toluca regarding a permanent deal for the 24-year-old.
The speculation adds that Toluca are hoping to receive a fee in the region of £7.5m for the midfielder, who they signed from Tijuana in 2022.
So far this calendar year Ruiz has enjoyed success for both club and country.
Earlier in 2025 he was part of the Toluca side that won the Liga MX Torneo Clausura for the first time in 15 years, with his performances earning him in a place in the team of the competition.
And he followed that up by being part of the Mexico team that won the Gold Cup earlier this months thanks to a 2-1 victory in the final over the USA.
Ruiz has scored 14 goals and laid on 16 assists from his 124 appearances for the his current club, while he has earned eight caps at senior international level.
