Ipswich Town reportedly target Dundee United left-back Jamie Robson along with Oxford United

Ipswich Town are reportedly set to be involved in a tug of war with a divisional rival for Dundee United star Jamie Robson.

According to The Scottish Sun the club's left-back star is being targeted by Town and their fellow Sky Bet League One rivals Oxford United this summer.

The 23-year-old, who has been with Dundee United since the age of 12, has made 168 senior appearances (160 starts) for The Terrors, scoring two goals.

His debut for the Tannadice Park outfit came in the Scottish League Cup in 2015 ahead of a loan spell at Brechin before establishing himself as a first-team regular at Dundee United.

Robson still has a year left on his contract at the Scottish Premier League club but they are reported to be willing to sell him on ahead of the season starting.

With experienced full-back Stephen Ward having been released ahead of signing for League Two Walsall on Friday, Town boss Paul Cook has already signed one left-back this summer.

Former Sheffield Wednesday 23-year-old Matt Penney joined the club at the start of the month, starting in Saturday's opening pre-season friendly victory at Dartford on Saturday.

But with Myles Kenlock having been one of a number of previous first-team squad players to be left training with the under-23s, the Blues boss is likely to be keen on bringing in another.

A loan move for Middlesbrough's England youth capped international Hayden Coulson, also 23, is another possibility to fill the spot.

TWTD reports 'significant progress' has already been made towards bringing the player who had a loan spell with Cambridge United in 2018/19 to Portman Road.

Meanwhile, in an interview with the EADT Town's CEO Mark Ashton has said he wants to bring in 'at least five more signings' to add to the six already confirmed before the summer transfer window shuts at the end of next month.
