Ipswich Town reportedly submit £1million bid for Glasgow Rangers centre-back George Edmundson following impressive Derby County loan spell

Ipswich Town are hoping to make Glasgow Rangers' out-of-favour centre-back Geroge Edmundson their first seven-figure signing of the Gamechanger 20 ownership era, according to reports.

The Daily Record broke the news yesterday of the Blues' pursuit of the former Oldham Athletic-raised 23-year-old.

And the Scottish title later revealed the Suffolk side have firmed up their interest with a bid of 'around £1million'.

Rangers are said to be willing to let the player – who impressed Derby County manager Wayne Rooney during his Championship loan spell during the second half of last season – go if their valuation is met.

Town's League One rivals Charlton, Sunderland and Portsmouth have all been credited with a loan interest along with the Rams, the latter whom are unable to offer a fee for a permanent move due to their current transfer embargo.

Newly-promoted Championship club Peterborough United were also linked with the Manchester-born player earlier in the summer.

His parent club are said to have already turned down several offers, thought to have reached £750,000.

Town have already signed eight players since the end of last season but a central defender tops manager Paul Cook's wishlist. He is yet to strengthen that area of his squad, having let captain Luke Chambers and supporters' player of the year James Wilson leave on free transfers.

Edmundson, who stands at 6ft 3ins tall, was named in the League Two Team of the Year in 2018/19 before Scottish giants Rangers swooped for his signature in a £750,000 deal on a four-year deal.

After some encouraging early appearances he fell down the pecking order at Ibrox and has only made 17 appearances north of the border, four from the bench, scoring two goals.

Edmundson, who turns 24 on August 15, turned out for Derby on 10 occasions, scoring one goal.

Crooks signs for Boro

Meanwhile, Matt Crooks, who was subject to a reported long-running pursuit by The Tractor Boys, has signed for Championship side Middlesborough from Rotherham United.

The Rotherham Advertiser has said the transfer fee for the central midfielder is worth an initial £1.1million.
