Ipswich Town coach Matt Gill looking for consistency ahead of Arsenal Under-21s' visit to Portman Road in EFL Trophy

Matt Gill says Ipswich Town will be looking to pick up where they left off when Arsenal Under-21s visit Portman Road in the EFL Trophy Southern Group B tomorrow night (7.45pm), writes Mikey Hale.

Blues put in an impressive display in their first competitive outing of 2020/21, defeating League One rivals Bristol Rovers 3-0 to progress to the second round of the Carabao Cup .

Paul Lambert's side utilised last year's EFL Trophy to blood talent from the academy - and while there will still be chances for young players this season - Matt has reiterated the importance of continuity in the team.

"It’s important that we remain consistent in our performances, in the way we play and with who plays," he told iFollow Ipswich.

"We want to continue that winning formula. There may be one or two changes, boys might get an opportunity, but I think it’s important - and I keep saying the word - that we have that consistency.

"We played in this competition a little later last year. We were really pleased with how we played (against Bristol Rovers) and hopefully we can take that into the next few games.

"I think everyone is just looking forward to another game. We’ve had a long spell off. All you want to do is play games, recover and get ready for the next one."

Fulham to visit

Town will face Premier League side Fulham at home in the second round of the Carabao Cup, following their 3-0 win at home to Bristol Rovers on Saturday.

The winner of the tie will then host the winner of Rochdale or Sheffield Wednesday in the third round.

Fulham, meanwhile, were given a bye in the first round due to their Premier League status.

Second round ties are set to take place on the midweek of 15/16 September, with the third round scheduled for a week later on 22/23 September.

Blues will announce a confirmed date and time for the Fulham tie in the coming days.
