Ipswich fighter Fabio Wardley ready for ‘massive’ fight against Justis Huni at Ipswich Town’s Portman Road

Fabio Wardley has insisted that he ready for one of the biggest fights of his career.

The 30-year-old is preparing for a crossroads fight against unbeaten Australian Justis Huni in his hometown of Ipswich at Portman Road on Saturday – a bout that many believe will be pivotal to his hopes of one day becoming a heavyweight world champion.

Yet while there is so much riding on the outcome, the experienced Wardley is in a relaxed mood.

The Ipswich Town supporter said: “Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been blessed and had some great events that I’ve been a part of through my career, but this one holds a special place for me and is, for me and everyone here, just a massive event.

“I’m really looking forward to getting the week going and getting stuck in.

“It’s just managing your energy, knowing that this is a big part of the job. Everyone thinks it’s just turn up, have a fight and go home, but there’s a lot more that goes into it.

“This is a big part of it, but you also have to realise that you need to save some energy, save a bit of yourself, for the actual night itself.

“That’s something you learn over time. I’ve been privileged to have been part of big events and big shows in the past, where there’s been a lot requested of me.

“Learning how to manage that, your time, your energy, your emotions over the last few years has all built me to a place where I’m ready and put together for this kind of event.”

Wardley, who became a father for the first time last week, has won 18 of his 19 bouts.
