Ipswich Town stay second in League One thanks to victory over Crewe Alexandra
Oli Hawkins' first goal for Ipswich Town was enough to secure a 1-0 win over Crewe Alexandra at Portman Road on Saturday.
The striker, who joined Town in the summer from fellow EFL League One side Portsmouth, headed home in the 62nd minute to wrap up all three points for Paul Lambert's men.
The match winner told Town's website: "It was a perfect ball in from Judgey (Alan Judge) and I was in the perfect area to rise above the defenders and nod it in.
“As a striker you want to score goals and when you move to a new club, you want to get your first goal early on.
“It’s taken me a little longer than I wanted, but when you’re playing and working hard, you put it to the back of your mind as you know it’ll come eventually.
“I’m just glad to get the goal that was the winner and hopefully we can go from there.”
The second-placed Tractor Boys will be back in action tomorrow when they make the long trip to Sunderland (7pm).
